Norma “Jean” Martin
Norma “Jean” Martin, 79 of Greensburg, IN. passed away Monday May 5, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN. She was born December 24, 1928 to Jacob and Thelma (Harlan) Harris in Ferndale, Michigan. On July 14, 1947 she married Delbert Martin, who survives, in Greensburg, IN. Last summer they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Jean attended Ben Davis, Washington, and Napoleon High Schools. For 37 years she was employed at Bohn Aluminum, retiring in 1991. She was an avid bowler, golfer, and for many years was a proud member of the “hole” in one club. Her activities included past member and office holder of the American Legion Auxiliary, a 57 year member and office holder of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and fundraiser for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization. She was also a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greensburg, IN.
She is survived by: Her husband, Delbert Martin of Greensburg, IN. 1 Son: Terry (Penny) Martin of Elwood, IN. 1 Daughter: Carol (Dale) Boing of Greensburg, IN. 1 Sister: Ann Harrison of Malvern, AK and 1 Brother: William Harris of Seagoville, TX. 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Ed Harris, two ½ brothers: Leroy and Herschel Arnold and one ½ sister: Rosemary Arnold.
Visitation will be held for family and friends on Thursday May 8, 2008 from 4-8 PM at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday May 9, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis Wenholz will be officiating with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery. Memorial Contributions May Be Made to Greensburg Big Brothers/Big Sisters and/or the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
