Event Title: Painting the Town Plein Air Paint Out
Friday, August 1, 2008
The second annual "Painting the Town" plein air paint out will be held in and around the historic courthouse square in downtown Greensburg on Friday August 1. Artists of all media, ages and ability are again invited to wander the square and nearby neighborhoods and gardens to create their impressions to share at the end of the day. The public is invited to watch the artists at work during the day and then gather with them at a tent on the square near the Friday afternoon Farmers' Market to view and/or purchase the creations. Last year 18 artists participated in the event, and it was a great opportunity for local residents and visitors to interact with artists from throughout the area and to purchase works with a local flavor.
Registration for the event will be from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in a tent on the courthouse square. From 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. the artists will gather at the registration tent to display and sell their works.
Any "artist" regardless of age or ability, is welcome to participate in this free event. Participants will receive free breakfast and lunch , a highlighted map, and chances for door prizes. Pre-registration is encouraged but not necessary. Artists are also invited to leave their works for display for three weeks after the paint out at our "Art on the Square" art gallery.
For more information about the event, or to volunteer to during the paint out, contact the Arts & Cultural Council by phone at (812) 663-8600 or by e-mail at accdc03@yahoo.com < .
This event is sponsored by the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County and its artist group, Downtown Greensburg Development Corporation and Heart of the Tree City. The event is part of the "Arts for All 2008-2009" program series , support for which is provided by The Decatur County Community Foundation, Vectren, Duke Energy, ETC, the Columbus Area Arts Council, the Indiana Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
