Acclaimed singer-song writer Tim Grimm and noted actor and storyteller Jeff Keel will perform on Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2:00 p.m. at the main beach at Lake Santee, 12 miles northeast of Greensburg. Their "Songs from the Heartland and Stories from the Backwoods" program promises something for everyone, from youngsters to seniors. "Folks are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the beach at this lake development," said Arts & Cultural Council director Lynda Smith, "and enjoy an afternoon of Americana music and stories that will appeal to all ages."
Tim Grimm is an "engaging, perceptive songwriter" who retains a traditionalist's love for classic country folk and bluegrass. "The way this talented artist can paint pictures dripping of time-honored Americana images with his words cannot help but evoke comparisons to everyone from Woody Guthrie and Steve Goodman to Nebraska-era Bruce Springsteen," said Midwest Beat Magazine. A few years ago Tim Grimm returned home to southern Indiana after several successful years as an actor in Los Angeles. He co-starrred in the NBC series Reasonable Doubts and appeared in half a dozen feature films, including Clear and Present Danger opposite Harrison Ford. Tired of living in LA, Tim and his wife bought an old farm not from where he grew up. Tim is a musical storyteller, whether writing of his own journey back to the land, describing those who never left it, or honoring those who came before. His songs are sung with warmth and intimacy, recognizing the idea of the family farm and the realities of the vanishing landscape of rural America.
As a storyteller, Jeff Keel has performed all around Indiana. He has worked professionally at festivals, parks, historical societies, fundraisers, annual banquets and even the world famous Cattle Congress in his home state of Iowa. He has been featured at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis either sharing stories about life on the railroad or portraying James Whitcomb Riley. Over the past decade, Jeff has been a regular performer at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. Notable IRT performances include Branch Rickey in Most Valuable Player, Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, Mark Twain in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Grumio in Taming of the Shrew. This summer he will be seen in the Heartland Actor's Repertory Theatre's production of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. He has also been seen in several television and radio commercials in both the Indianapolis and Cincinnati markets.
"Songs from the Heartland and Stories from the Backwoods" is part of the "Arts for All 2008-2009" program series of the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County. Support for this performance has been provided by the Decatur County Community Foundation, Vectren, Duke Energy and Enhanced Telecommunications.
